This week's Reign Season 2 Episode 7 saw King Francis pressured to act against his conscience, lest he end up putting his marriage and the throne at risk.

How did that turn out for the monarch? And in whom did Mary find a new ally?

As a typically complex and dramatic Reign Season 2 Episode 7 began, Princess Claude flashes her breasts and makes it very clear that she hath arrived.

After an uncomfortable breakfast, the nobles want the royals to sign a law requiring everyone to either be Catholic or to pretend they are and keep quiet.

Basically Don't Ask Don't Tell, but Reign Catholic style. Mary deduces that Castleroy is Protestant and tells Greer about the law the nobles presented.

Bash tells Francis the only person who saw Narcisse is Lola. Francis and Bash conspire to hunt down the nanny and Montgomery, then kill Narcisse.

Mary wants to stand by Francis, who wants to defy the nobles and their edict.

Will he, though? Speaking with Mary, Conde doesn't get why Francis is not listening to her. She wants a respected noble to denounce the proposal publicly.

Catherine looks at an English cipher that is used by spies. Dangerous stuff.

Francis, who takes it from her, asks Lola to hide the cipher in Narcisse's house. He also wants her to pick between him or Narcisse. Who's it gonna be?

Narcisse tells Lola to take a bath for him. So hot and weird at the same time.

Lola wonders why Francis thinks he's an enemy. He gives her the choice to either dry off and go home or continue with him on this life-altering path.

Tempting. Meanwhile, Catherine tells Mary that Conde cannot be trusted.

Because he's a prince of the blood, that is. If she didn't bear any children or Francis died, it is his family who stands to become the next line of kings.

Heavy stuff. If you watch Reign online, you're used to that though.

Then Narcisse tells Lola that Francis killed his father in hopes that when he asks her to betray his trust, she will remember who it was who told the truth.

Francis wants to make Mary proud and prepares to come clean. He's going to confess and makes preparations for what might take place after he does.

The nanny, meanwhile, has been discovered, dead for weeks.

Narcisse approaches Francis to have the edict signed, but Francis refuses, saying he'd rather die than be a compromised King taking orders like this.

In response, Narcisse threatens to end the entire family.

Catherine sees the two little girls again, and the message that sisters share is unavoidable as they tug at her hair and tell her Henry has never left her.

As Claude wakes up, Catherine tells her she must leave. Francis signs the edict, and Mary suggests she leave France, no longer waiting for the one she loves.
