- Ken Jennings, Iconic Jeopardy Champion, Under Fire for Insensitive Wheelchair Tweet
What is... things we did not expect to write about today?
Ken Jennings - who made over $3 million during his incredible run as a contestant on Jeopardy - is facing major fire today for a totally random and very insensitive Tweet.
Proving that even smart men can make dumb decisions, Jennings took to his social media page last night and wrote:
"Nothing sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair."
Jennings did not put his quote in any kind of context (not that any would really excuse it; safe to assume he simply saw an attractive handicapped person) and it instantly drew a rebuke from followers.
Many referred to the message as “hurtful” and “disappointing," with a couple more notable examples reading:
- To any young people out there with a disability, you are perfect just the way you are. Ken Jennings can stick my walking stick up his bum.
- @KenJennings Wow. There are so many awful things about that sentence I don’t even know where to start.
Jennings did not apologize or delete the Tweet, but he did acknowledge the negative feedback on a subsequent posting.
When one user wrote, “Probably your best,” Jennings replied with: “The Internet does not agree."
No way would Watson the Computer have sent that Tweet or thought those thoughts.
